The acclaimed national bestseller-a no-holds-barred account of what you can really expect when you're expecting

Oh, the joys of pregnancy! There's the gassiness, constipation, queasiness, and exhaustion, the forgetfulness, crankiness, and the constant worry. Of course, no woman is spared the discomforts and humiliations of pregnancy, but most are too polite to complain or too embarrassed to talk about them. Not Jenny McCarthy!

In the New York Times best-selling Belly Laughs, actress and new mother Jenny McCarthy reveals the naked truth about the tremendous joys, the excruciating pains, and the unseemly disfigurement that go along with pregnancy. Never shy, frequently crude, and always laugh-out-loud funny, McCarthy covers it all in the grittiest of girlfriend detail. From morning sickness and hormonal rage, to hemorrhoids, pregnant sex, and the torture and sweet relief that is delivery, Belly Laughs is must-read comic relief for anyone who is pregnant, who has ever been pregnant, is trying to get pregnant, or indeed, has ever been born!

"Some perspective & stress relief!" 2009-11-06
By Amber Chaib (Portland, OR USA)
Just as the week by week pregnancy guides have us first time mothers-to-be sleepless with worry about everything that can go wrong, Jenny McCarthy provided some comic relief. I was very isolated from friends and had no mother or sister figures during my pregnancies, so needless to say this book balanced my experience. I found myself laughing out loud while reading, which is rare in the absence of a David Sedaris book.

She pretty much covers the sequence of events and the pros and cons in a conversational tone. I think the experiences and perspective she shares had me looking forward to the inevitable more because I knew I wasn't going it alone.

Now, I buy a copy for every first time mother I know as a gift.

Even though this is an easy, fast read, it's fun and offsets the logical and traditional(boring) girlfriends' guide. Many other books are full of dogma. This resonated more with my personality and honestly-while it's not meant to be your survival guide-it carries its weight in laughs that most of us will share.

"Crass, unorganized, and well, not funny." 2009-11-03
By A. Fischer (Sunnyvale, CA)
I am obviously the minority in my opinion of this book, but I just didn't enjoy it. It was really crass - which is fine, had it been hysterical, but I just didn't find it very funny. I don't think I even giggled once. The book focuses one one particular pregnancy 'ailment' per chapter, and they don't seem to be organized in any noticeable way. It jumps around between gas, sex drive, granny panties, and hemorrhoids seemingly randomly. The book focuses almost exclusively on all that sucks about pregnancy (except for one bit discussing how much better orgasm was for her during pregnancy), without any mention of the wonderful things you experience as well.

I think with some better editing, organization, and maybe a little 'upper', a happy story thrown in periodically, this could have been a great book, but I think it fell flat. I'm glad so many others have found it enjoyable, but the only real redeeming value for me was that it was short and I finished it in one sitting.

"Easy, fun read for parents-to-be" 2009-10-17
By yogihk
This book was great! My husband and I laughed the whole way through. The only reason I only gave it 4 stars is because while funny and lightly informative about some of the non-glamorous things that come with pregnancy, it doesn't contain a lot of information about these things. Obviously, it's meant to be light-hearted and not scientific or medical, just make sure (especially if you're a first time parent-to-be!) that you pair reading this with something that has the appropriate medical information.

This book was really entertaining! An easy read (I think it took about 4 days to finish)! My husband loved it too! Caught him reading it when he thought I wasn't looking.

"Belly Laughs, funny but not as funny as I hoped" 2009-10-12
By V. Rhodes (Prescott, Az)
This was a cute read, but I am glad I bought it on sale. It isn't worth the full price. It is a short read with some laughs.
